Note: This remedy is particularly useful in the treatment of lick granulomas in the dog, stress licking of the coat in cats, fear of loud noises, hysteria jealousy. It is a very powerful remedy in the psychic and psychosomatic area of veterinary medicine. The Synergistic effect between the homeopathics in this complex make this remedy suitable for a wide range of anxiety induced problems.
INDICATIONS: Anxiety or anxiety induced conditions: fear of fireworks, thunder, loud noises, crowds, veterinary visits, grooming, shows, lick granulomas, psychogenic alopecia, hysteria-barking or destruction when left alone, cystitis and priapism, separation anxiety, kenneling, weaning, orphans, rescue patients, crying at night, travel sickness, training classes and feather plucking in birds.
FORMS: Liquid
PACKAGE SIZE: 15 ml bottle
DOSE: Dogs/Cats under 20 lbs/10 kg, 5 drops; 20-100 lbs/10-50 kg, 10 drops; over 100 lbs/50 kg, 15 drops. In acute cases the doses can be given every 15 minutes for the first hour, every 30 minutes in the second hour, once in the third hour, then reducing to 1 dose 3 times daily. For cases that are not acute one dose 3 times daily; this is often best started 5-7 days before any situation causing anxious behavior e.g.: before kenneling.
Once a response is seen, the administration should either be reduced until symptoms reappear or ceased until symptoms reappear. If any reduction in dose or frequency leads to immediate reoccurrence of symptoms, then medication should be continued with a reduction being done every 12-21 days to check that the medication is providing control rather than relief of symptoms.
DOSE: Small mammals, exotics, and birds: 3 drops in drinking water daily. For severe cases a drop can be diluted in 1 ml of water or other oral rehydration fluid and given to the patient orally, taking care to avoid aspiration of the fluid into the respiratory tract by the patient. This can be repeated as for cats and dogs where the case is acute, but with a volume of fluid suited to the vatient.
ADMINISTRATION: Optimally the liquid preparation should be dropped directly into the mucous membrane of the mouth including lips, ideally in dogs by pulling out the labial pouch and in cats by raising the head until the mouth opens. Where an animal finds this distressful or an owner is unable to comply, the medication can be put in the food, water or milk. Where animals are sensitive to the odor of the alcohol preservative a 10-20 minute period should be allowed for it to dilute and evaporate before the liquid or food is presented to the patient. Occasionally animals will shake their head as a response to the alcohol preservative; cats may salivate excessively and in these cases presenting it in food, water or milk works.
ADVERSE EFFECTS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS: None known other than reversible effect of over dosage. Over dosage will result in a return of symptoms after the symptoms have initially disappeared. Where either an increase or a return of symptoms occurs while on the medication then ceasing to use will alleviate the effect. Patients who are hypersensitive to homeopathic preparations can possibly show response to a single dose which may not need to be repeated for some time. For this reason, therapy for these pets should always start with a single dose the previous day and should a major response be seen therapy should not be recom_menced until symptoms relapse and then only a single dose given for maximum effect. Although no evidence exists to the contrary, care should be taken with it's use in pregnant animals as low potency homeopathics are historically not regarded as totally safe in pregnancy, despite their lack of chemicals. Should a suspected adverse reaction be seen or you want advice please contact HomeoPet LLC at toll free number: 800-555-4461 , tel: 631-288-6883, fax: 631-288-6711. E-mail info@homeopet.com. Visit our website at: www.homeopet.com.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: None known for animal use; keep out of reach of children.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS: Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, away from powerful magnetic fields and strong odors.
USER SAFETY: No adverse effects have been recorded. There have been reports to the company of beneficial rather than adverse effects. As homeopathics are active in humans care is advised when handling product, although a long history of homeopathics used in humans shows a very high safety margin.
ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: To date none found.
VETERINARY NOTES ON ANXIETY COMPLEX:
This Anxiety Complex is used in anxiety, stress and neurotic disorders such as:
- I. Travel Sickness: Associated with
- a) fear of travel
- b) motion sickness
- c) visual induced motion sickness.
The effectiveness of this remedy can be enhanced by ensuring the dog is kept on the floor of the vehicle, unable to see out or on the owners lap.
- 2. Fear of Noise: This can be fear of gunshot; fireworks, thunderstorms or wind storms and sirens.
- 3. Hysteria: Where an animal whines or howls hysterically. Where dogs living together continually attack each other.
- 4. Anxieties: Useful for neurotic coat licking in cats-Psycogenic Alopecia (It is not suited to Miliary Eczema). In the dog and cat it is suitable for conditions brought on by separation anxiety, e.g. new pups not settling at night, dogs and cats who won’t settle in kennels or who suffer gastric upsets every time they are left alone or in kennels It can be used in advance as a preventive.
- 5. Neurotic Behaviors: Where animal has been left with someone other than the owner or other separation of pet from owner. Stress induced licking of coat on the flank region, dorsum usually on one side only extending to hip and sometimes down back of legs and licking of the legs constantly. Very often a pimply rash will be present with dry scaly skin or wet eczema with induration of the skin. Some Lick Granulomas will respond to this treatment.
- 6. Warts: Some warts may respond to this remedy. Dose is given twice to three times a day for 4 days and repeated three times weekly until warts go.
- 7. Preventive Recommendations: Ths complex should be given to puppies and kittens when they are taken from the bitch, to dogs and cats that are found abandoned and have a lost soul demeanor,” to dogs and cats separated from the person to who they are attached and to animals who have lost their owner through bereavement.
VETERINARY NOTES ON DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
The recommended dose of the Anxiety Complex for dogs is 10 drops three times daily. The frequency can be gradually reduced once symptoms have improved and continue to maintain improvement (reducing dosage too early can result in a reoccurrence of symptoms). The dose in some patients can be eventually as low as once daily. In cats the dose can be as low as 2 drops three times daily. Due to the alcohol content some cats can salivate excessively following treatment- this can be overcome by adding the drops to a small amount of the patient’s food, water or milk In all cases the food or liquid should be left out 20 minutes for the alcohol to dilute or evaporate. In cats the drops are best placed in the back of the oral cavity. In dogs the drops can be placed anywhere on the oral cavity. Some dogs will shake their head for a couple of moments after the first administration, but the occasional dog may object to the second administration in which case the same methods as for cats work
In pregnant animals caution would be advised as only homeopathics above 3cc are regarded as totally safe.
Concurrent use of conventional therapies such as Antibiotics, Non-Steroidal
Anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDs), Steroid Anti-Inflammatories or Analgesics have not to date shown any adverse reactions. In some very chronic cases a combination approach can be taken with a much lower dose of conventional therapies being achieved This is particularly useful in patients where high doses of conventional therapy are the only way to control the anxiety condition, but have to be used at levels causing side effects.
