INDICATIONS:
The synergistic effects between the homeopathics in this complex makes the remedy especially suitable for flea dermatitis.
FORMS: Liquid
PACKAGE SIZE: 15 ml bottle
DOSE: Dose: Give orally, 3 times per day, in food or water (dogs–10 drops, cats– 3 drops). When improvement is seen, decrease frequency of dose. If improvement is maintained, stop dosage after 2 days. If symptoms reappear, repeat original dose.
VETERINARY NOTES ON INDICATIONS FOR THE USE OF Flea Bite DermatitusCOMPLEX
Successful treament requires removing the cause (fleas) in both the animal and their resting place.
Components of flea saliva can result in a pet's hypersensitivity. To an allergic pet, one flea bite may result in extensive skin damage as a result of the pet's biting, licking, and scratching.
Flea bite hypersensitivity can be treated, but it often recurs because of the life cycle of flea eggs existing in the pet's environment. Warm climates create more of a year-round problem, whereas the summer and fall are most troublesome for those pets living in colder climates.
Symptoms vary for cats and dogs, but hair loss generally is one of the symptoms for both. In cats, small red papules with reddish-brown crusts may be found with lesions being most prevalent around the neck, lower back, base of the tail, and abdomen. Dogs usually have skin involvement around the base of the tail, up the middle of the back and on the abdomen.
In a flea allergic pet, signs worsen as the pet ages. Because desensitization (allergy shots) is not very effective, treatment consists of medicated shampoos, antihistamines, antibiotics and steroids. The only real cure for flea allergy dermatitis is complete elimination of fleas both on the pet and in the environment.
VETERINARY NOTES ON DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended dose of the Miliary Complex used is 10 drops for dogs and 3 to 5 drops for cats three times daily initially The frequency can be gradually reduced once symptoms have improved and continue to maintain improvement (reducing dosage too early can result in a reoccurrence of symptoms). In cats the dose can be as low as 2 drops three times daily. Due to the alcohol content some cats can salivate excessively following treatment- this can be overcome by adding the drops to a small amount of the patient’s food, water or milk In all cases the food or liquid should be left 10 to 20 minutes for the alcohol to dilute or evaporate. In cats the drops are best placed in the back of the oral cavity. In pregnant animals caution would be advised as only homeopathics above 3cc are regarded as totally safe.
Concurrent use of conventional therapies such as Antibiotics Antispasmodics, Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDs), Steroid AntiInflammatories or Analgesics have not to date shown any adverse reactions. In some very chronic cases a combination approach can be taken with a much lower dose of conventional therapies being achieved This is particularly useful in patients where high doses of conventional therapy are the only way to control the condition, but have to be used at levels causing side effects
ADMINISTRATION: Optimally the liquid preparation should be dropped directly into the mucous membrane of the mouth including lips; ideally in cats by raising the head until the mouth opens. Where an animal finds this distressful or an owner is unable to comply, the medication can be put in the food, water or milk. Where animals are sensitive to the odor of the alcohol preservative a 10 to 20 minute period should be allowed for it to dilute and evaporate before the liquid or food is presented to the patient. Occasionally animals will shake their head as a response to the alcohol preservative; cats may salivate excessively and in these cases presenting it in food, water or milk works.
ADVERSE EFFECTS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS: None known other than reversible effect of over dosage. Over dosage will result in a return of symptoms after the symptoms have initially disappeared. Where either an increase or a return of symptoms occurs while on the medication then ceasing to use will alleviate the effect. Patients who are hypersensitive to homeopathic preparations can possibly show response to a single dose which may not need to be repeated for some time. For this reason, therapy for these pets should always start with a single dose the first day and should a major response be seen therapy should not be recommenced until symptoms relapse and then only a single dose given for maximum effect. Although no evidence exists to the contrary, care should be taken with it's use in pregnant animals as low potency homeopathics are historically not regarded as totally safe in pregnancy, despite their lack of chemicals. DRUG INTERACTIONS: None known for animal use; keep out of reach of children.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS: Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, away from powerful magnetic fields and strong odors.
USER SAFETY: No adverse effects have been recorded. There have been reports to the company of beneficial rather than adverse effects. As homeopathics are active in humans care is advised when handling product, although a long history of homeopathics used in humans shows a very high safety margin.
ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: To date none found.
